Project planning

1. Initial Project Consultation ::
You present your technical problem using sketches, descriptions, models, comparisons with competitors' products, previous versions, partial solutions or functional models that already have been developed. The more information, well-ordered or not, the better. In addition to the technical specifications, we will require detailed information on the application parameters, the planned product quantity and, of course, the intended production price.

We guarantee complete confidentiality from the very beginning of the project. All information provided by your company will be protected from any third-party access. In case of an especially sensitive project, a separate confidentiality agreement can be concluded.


2. Provisional Performance Specifications ::

Following the initial project consultation, our staff will review the presented information, formulate a technical project description for our purposes and discuss various approaches for accomplishing the project goals. Subsequently, we will prepare the provisional performance specifications in cooperation with your company. This document will include technical specifications, a suggested price for fabrication and a timeline for project completion


3. Quotation for Development Services ::

With the provisional performance specifications, it then becomes possible to submit an appropriate offer to you. In this offer, we shall present a detailed listing of the individual parts of the project (circuit design, layout, programming, device design, etc.), the assessed man-hours needed and the costs for materials and external services (e.g. printed circuit board service). This detailed listing makes the offer transparent and comprehensible. The final price given in the offer is fixed. A recalculation of this price would only become necessary in case that, before the finalization of the project, your company would change or augment the performance specifications detailed in the provisional document to such a degree that our estimated costs would increase significantly. The offer will also include a brief description of the project, the calculated price for fabrication and the provisional performance specifications.

All services provided up to this point are free of charge!


4. Product Concept ::

For larger, more complex projects (duration > ½ year), it may be useful, or even necessary, to include a product-concept stage in the project planning, prior to the actual design stage. This phase of the project would enable us to give the appropriate attention to the following questions:

Is it technically possible to make the device (for the specified fabrication price)? Are there any existing (partial) solutions? Are those solutions applicable to our common project? What is the current competitive situation in the market? What are the current trends? Which standards/norms should be used if relevant? What are the possible device variants? Which advantages and disadvantages does each device posses?

A well-planned product-concept saves a great deal of development time and guarantees the long-term success of your product on the market.

The final results of this product-concept stage (if you choose to include it in your project) are the performance specifications and the offer for development services. Based on the completed product-concept, you will be able to decide whether and in what manner the project shall be pursued and initiate an order for the corresponding development services.

A separate fee is charged for the development of a product-concept. This fee shall be specified in a separate offer. All results and documentation of the product-concept stage are the exclusive property of your company.


5. Functional Model ::

Once a formal order for development services has been placed with us, we will design and build one (or, if necessary, more than one) functional model(s) as part of the first design stage. For the design of this model, we employ high-performance, state-of-the-art CAD tools, along with modern laboratory facilities and software tools. All results of the developmental work are documented in great detail and can (and should!) be examined by the customer and, where appropriate, corrected and augmented. We place great importance on the maintenance of an open line of communication with the customer throughout the entire duration of the project in order to avoid misunderstandings and mistakes in the development process. For this reason, we emphasize the significance of regular personal face-to-face consultations about the latest developments of the project, next to and in spite of using other, more modern forms of communication.

Following laboratory trials, the functional model will be turned over to the customer. This model will represent the planned series-fabrication device to the greatest possible extent in terms of its functional, electrical and mechanical properties, but may, nevertheless, exhibit development-related limitations and imperfections in appearance (wire jumpers, remedial assembly measures, etc.). Based on his evaluation of this model, the customer must summarize all desired changes. This input will then be incorporated into the project, provided the respective changes are technically and financially feasible.


6. Series-Fabrication Model ::

Following a redesign of the functional model, we will produce the desired number of series-fabrication models. These models will be turned over to the customer for trial use and subsequent possession.


7. Project Completion ::

Once the customer has taken possession of the product(s), we will prepare a comprehensive set of documentation which contains all required data and information on the production and maintenance of the device (circuit diagrams, layouts, parts lists, design drawings, annotated source codes, FPGA/PLD files, functional characteristics, etc.). Once the customer has received this product documentation, whose content is their exclusive property, we consider the project officially completed.

We do, however, occasionally present completed projects as references for potential clients but only with express consent from the respective customer.


8. Fabrication/ Service/ Product Management ::

The customer, now, has the option of utilizing our fabrication, maintenance and product-management services. We would, of course, be happy to take complete responsibility for this stage of the project but would also be willing to assist you in the contracting of fabrication work to a third party.

Our experience has shown that a second redesign of the product frequently becomes necessary about one year after the fabrication process has begun in order to incorporate all of the customer's requirements for the adaptation of the product. These desired adaptations stem, on the one hand, from possible responses you will receive from your customers to the newly developed device and, on the other hand, from the additional requirements of production. Therefore, we are often called upon by our customers to take responsibility for the corresponding product management at this point of time.


9. Remuneration ::

Our development projects often involve a period of several months. Therefore, payments are made according to a payment schedule specified in the offer. Normally, one instalment is due at the start of the project, one at the presentation of the functional model and one at the completion of the project. For smaller projects and product-concept work, a single payment is due at the completion of the project or, respectively, at the presentation of the completed product-concept.
